Was Afraid I'd Have to Sleep in the Lobby
Aug. 22nd, 2010 01:40 pmForgot my school ID in my dorm room! D: Fortunately someone remembered me from check-in and let me in. Whew! That'll teach me not to obsessively check that I've got all my cards and keys. Thank you Mother Mary, St.s Anthony and Jude, St. Paul, and my Guardian Angel! Thank you Jesus! St. Eris, oh you. Seriously, St. Eris, I'd like to say not cool, but then I wouldn't be getting the joke, would I? I'm too serious (& forgetful!) for my own good.
Decided to let the Gambling God story percolate for a while, see if I can get the expies further away from their originals. Taking inspiration is great, taking the character himself is bad. I need to fix some things.
Been working on a new story for now--it also has a couple of expies, but they're far enough away from their originals that that are actually just 'inspired' and not 'boy, this reminds me of someone.' They don't have much in the way of characterization one way or the other because of it, at least not nearly as much characterization as I'd like. That'll change. Give me an inspiration and I'll run with it to far off and bizarre places.
This one is sort of sci-fi-y, and I know nothing of sci fi outside of star wars and star trek and a handfull of Asimov stories, so I'm trying to turn it into fantasy. Like the ships travel between planes instead of different solar systems, the ships run on magical energies, and every ship needs a resident wizard to provide magical translations, etc. It still feels sci-fi-y to me though, and that's just not a genre I'm comfortable writing in.
